First International Campus Eindhoven VisitOn Saturday, 16 January 2010 we had a ‘school visit’ to the Kazerne, the site of the new campus for the International School Eindhoven. There were three tours given, one at 9:30 for staff when we had almost 100 staff members looking around, then we had two sessions for parents when we attracted nearly two hundred parents and students. Although the weather was poor and the underfoot conditions were treacherous, the overwhelming feedback was exceedingly positive. Visitors could envisage a school in these settings, could see the importance of the ‘historic’ value of the site and were very impressed with the space available and potential facilities that we could have. They also could see a great potential for the international community as a whole. Parents raised some questions that we had also thought about and have already started discussions on. These were: security of the site; access for students on public transport; sufficient lighting for students arriving on foot or bicycles; the ‘red light’ area at the back of the site; keeping the woods clean and safe from potential problems. Although these issues have been raised with the Gemeente, parents will clearly need further reassurances that this will be a safe and healthy place to educate their children. Again, the overall impressions were very favourable. |
